Canvas of the Wild partnered with the Oceanic Preservation Society and the Endangered Species Coalition to celebrate the Endangered Species Act turning 50 with this Sawfish-inspired mural for the 9th annual SHINE Mural Festival in St. Petersburg, FL.
In October 2023, we design and installed this interactive 400 sq foot mangrove-themed mural to engage local Floridians with the plight of the critically endangered Smalltooth sawfish, a native species of fish that has roamed along our coastline for thousands of years. Only recently, juvenile sawfish have been seen swimming among the remaining protected mangrove forests in Tampa Bay. Featured in the mural are other iconic wildlife found in Tampa Bay, with each being connected to the Canvas of the Wild knowledgebase. As part of this outreach campaign to educate the public, we collaborated with Havenworth Coastal Conservation and NOAA Fisheries.
This mural is part of the Sea of Connections mural campaign.
